Short and Relatively Painless Procedure For Our Patients
Sclerotherapy is widely used and highly effective medical procedure used to eliminate varicose veins and spider veins all over the body. The procedure involves an injection of solution (typically saline) into the vein. The solution causes the blood vessel to clot and stick together, which eventually prompts the clotted vessel to turn into scar tissue and fade away naturally. At Arizona Vein & Laser Institute, our vein specialists offer fast and effective sclerotherapy for clients in Phoenix, Glendale, Chandler, and surrounding areas. What Is Sclerotherapy and How Does It Work?
Sclerotherapy is a short and relatively painless procedure that involves the injection of a solution, called a sclerosant, directly into the vein. The sclerosant irritates the inside of the vein, causing it to close and become scar tissue. Eventually, this tissue will fade away. It is through this process that sclerotherapy is used as a fast and effective spider vein treatment and removal. In some cases, veins may reappear in some capacity months after treatment. If this is the case, a second treatment may be needed.
Sclerotherapy is both minimally evasive and affordable. Depending on the size of the veins and the number injected, the procedure typically lasts anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes. Most patients experience mild discomfort during injections and are advised to wear compression bandages or compression stockings for the first few days or weeks after treatment to prevent blood from returning to the treated veins.
